Statement on the August 4th anonymous trespassing and vandalism of the home of two Maplewood Elected Officials

The South Orange Maplewood Community Coalition on Race has for more than 20 years stood for fostering productive dialogue among our towns' residents toward true inclusion and integration. We support those who stand in solidarity with integration, equity, and racial justice. We support the right of people to express their views and protest. However, we are disheartened by and condemn these efforts to anonymously intimidate some of our elected officials by trespassing on their properties and placing lawn signs close to their homes, causing fear. We believe that these intimidation tactics are wrong, and detract from critical and necessary community dialogue around policing, police accountability, community safety, and racism.
