Community Coalition on Race Condemns Hate Violence toward LGBTQ+ Community

The Community Coalition on Race of South Orange-Maplewood condemns yet another senseless and tragic act of hatred against the LGBTQ+ community-this time in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This attack, on the eve of Transgender Day of Remembrance (a day of remembrance which honors members of the transgender community lost to violence due to unmitigated hateful condemnation), evidences what happens when vitriol is allowed to be spewed by perpetrators of hate without consequences. We believe all should heed the comments of President Biden who noted "...we know that the LGBTQI+ community has been subjected to horrific hate violence in recent years. Gun violence continues to have a devastating and particular impact on the LGBTQI+ communities across our nation and threats of violence are increasing." We reaffirm our unequivocal support for the LGBTQ+ community. We ask you to join us in sending thoughts and prayers to the families of those who lost their lives and those who were injured as the result of this horrific act as well as take action to condemn and hold accountable those who engage in hateful acts that harm the LGTBQ+ and other marginalized communities.
