The Monitoring & Evaluation Committee of the Community Coalition on Race looked at demographic trends in our towns to address some growing concerns about school and neighborhood integration. The 2019 updated report offers an expanded look at the schools, an overview of school integration history, affordable housing, plus income and integration comparisons to some comparable NJ suburbs.

Community Coalition to Present Demographics Report Update

Stable racial integration in housing and all aspects of community life has been a core component of the Community Coalition on Race’s intentional integration mission since 1996. The Monitoring & Evaluation Committee of the Community Coalition on Race looked at demographic trends in our towns to address some growing concerns about school and neighborhood integration. The 2016 report generated questions and observations about how the two towns grow in diversity, continue to pursue their residential integration goals, improve their viability for seniors and renters, whether and how we meet our affordable housing obligations, and more.

The 2019 updated report offers an expanded look at the schools, an overview of school integration history, affordable housing, plus income and integration comparisons to some comparable NJ suburbs. We asked:

  • What have SOMA’s demographics looked like over the last 23 years?
  • What events have impacted our demographics?
  • Where are we now?
  • Are there observable trends that forecast our future demographic profile?

Join us for a public presentation of the report on Tuesday, June 11th, 7:30 pm, at the South Orange Public Library.
