Forum on School Integration in SOMA

The Community Coalition on Race will host a panel discussion at Columbia High School, Now More Than Ever: How All Students Benefit from Integrated Schools, providing the historical and educational context for the SOMA School District’s Intentional Integration Initiative (III), which is entering its fifth year. This event is open to the entire community, but it will be particularly informative for young families with students in elementary and preschool, and those who recently moved to SOMA. The evening’s program will include a keynote address by Dr. Amy Stuart Wells, Dr. Amy Stuart Wells, Chief Research Officer at Bank Street College of Education, and Professor Emeritus of Sociology and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. Joining Dr. Wells is Rhena Jasey-Goodman, assistant director of teacher induction at Montclair State University’s Center for Pedagogy. Ms. Jasey-Goodman taught at the Seth Boyden Demonstration School, is a Columbia High School graduate, and was a student during the school district’s first effort to intentionally integrate – the 1980s Marshall-Jefferson pairing.
