Are you passionate about intentional racial integration, racial equity, and building a community where people of all races can truly belong and thrive? The South Orange/Maplewood Community Coalition on Race is seeking new members to join our Board of Trustees.
Serving as a trustee is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by working with a diverse group of community leaders to strengthen racial integration and equity in South Orange and Maplewood. Trustees help shape the Coalition's strategic direction, support innovative programs, and serve as ambassadors for our mission.
Our work spans housing, schools, community engagement, advocacy, and the arts. Signature programs include the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance & Volunteer Fair, Conversations on Race, Integrated Art Circles, Talking to Children about Race, the BOE Candidates' Forum, and educational programs that advance dialogue, understanding, and action. Trustees also support initiatives such as fair housing advocacy, affirmative marketing through ChooseSOMA.com, the Wealth Gap Equalizer Loan Program, and community education on issues that shape racial integration.
We are looking for individuals who are committed to our mission, bring diverse perspectives and experiences, and are eager to contribute their time, talents, and ideas. Trustees participate in monthly board meetings, serve on committees, and engage in thoughtful discussions about the opportunities and challenges facing our community.
If you're ready to help shape the future of one of the nation's longest-standing intentional integration initiatives, we'd love to hear from you.
Apply to join our Board of Trustees by completing our online interest form. If you have questions or would like to learn more, please contact our Nominating Committee at [email protected] with "Board of Trustees" in the subject line.
