Juneteenth 2025

The Durand-Hedden House & Garden Association and the South Orange-Maplewood Community Coalition on Race invite all community members to celebrate this important holiday on the beautiful grounds surrounding Durand-Hedden House. This event, which highlights the themes of freedom, resistance, and remembering the past while looking towards the future, is perfect for all ages to learn about the holiday and about the history of enslaved people in New Jersey through the amazing museum exhibit. Plus, the day is full of fun and engaging outdoor events including historical reenactors, musical performances, face painting, crafts, and storytelling. The Coalition’s final Integrated Art Dance Circle is part of the day’s events: Join your friends and neighbors in a West African Traditional Dance session with Yahaya Kamate, a West African dancer and drummer. RSVPs are welcome here!
