Program & Volunteer Coordinator– Full-Time (Exempt) South Orange/Maplewood Community Coalition on Race

Salary: $48,000 per year
Hours: 40 hours/week, including regular weeknight meetings and occasional weekends
Location: Hybrid (in-person committee meetings and events; remote and in-office as needed)

The South Orange/Maplewood Community Coalition on Race is a progressive, grassroots nonprofit committed to building and sustaining racial integration in our two-town community. For over 25 years, we have worked toward racial, ethnic, and cultural inclusion in every facet of public life through strategic, collective action and advocacy. We are powered by a diverse board, committed staff, and a large network of passionate volunteers.

Position Summary

We’re seeking a full-time Program & Volunteer Coordinator who shares our passion for advancing racial diversity, equity, and inclusion in South Orange and Maplewood (SOMA). The Program Coordinator plays a key role in designing and implementing community programs that advance the organization’s mission. This role is a public-facing position, requiring the ability to act as an ambassador for our nonprofit's mission and values when interacting with stakeholders, partners, and the community. The coordinator will work closely with the Executive Director and board-led committees to manage operations, partnerships, and volunteer coordination across a broad range of initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate programs in collaboration with volunteer committees and the Executive Director, aligning them with annual goals and the organization’s mission.
  • Manage program schedules, communications, and budgets
  • Participate in committee meetings to provide logistical, planning, and administrative support
  • Maintain SharePoint files for committees, including minutes, and program information
  • Cultivate and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations, schools, and institutional partners to enhance program reach and impact
  • Support committees in developing annual goals, objectives, and budgets
  • Manage program data and reporting to inform strategy and support grant applications.
  • Lead and manage volunteer engagement, including recruitment, orientation, delegation, and support.
  • Collaborate on grant proposals, including drafting budgets, narrative content, and program outcomes.
  • Facilitate workshops and trainings on racial equity and inclusion

Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge of and commitment to racial equity and social justice, and culturally responsive practices
  • Demonstrated experience in community organizing, program/project management
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and project management skills
  • Self-starter and good at working independently with strong time management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with Canva, Constant Contact, and social media
  • Grant writing and fundraising experience is a plus
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred

Work Schedule & Location

  • 40 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends
  • Hybrid work model: must be available for in-office days, committee meetings, and in-person events
  • Requires the ability to operate standard office equipment, including phones, monitors, and keyboards, and the ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds
  • Must have reliable transportation

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $48,000/year
  • Benefits: Paid holidays, accrued vacation, flexible scheduling, and a year-end office closure week
  • Please note: This position does not include health or retirement benefits.
